It’s August and Gencon is just around the corner, the temperatures are rising and so is everyone’s anticipation for the next edition of D&D. We’ve been covering a lot of news regarding 5e on the Haste Podcast and Jerry has been talking about it a lot on his blog.
Obviously, we’re pretty excited ourselves and so we’d like to give everyone a chance at winning some awesome 5e schwag, whether you’re going to gencon or not this year! What better goodies to give away than some 5e D&D Starter Sets, and maybe even a Player’s Handbook! The contest is simple, but you’ve only got until the end of Gencon to enter, here’s how:
In one line: Tell us the best way to beat the heat! Whether you’re avoiding fireballs, surviving a red dragon’s breath, or simply not shriveling up under the Dark Sun.
“I cast any remaining ice spells inside my house before I go to sleep and re-memorize everything, just so I have some A/C while I sleep”
“Huddle behind my my shield and hope all this ‘dwarven craftsmanship’ pays off when the dragon starts spewing fire”
“Stow my canteen of water in the last place anyone would look – inside the severed orc head that dangles from my belt.”
How to enter:
- In one sentence or less, and in a D&D (or at least “fantasy”) themed response, tell us how you or your character is beating the heat this summer. Get creative!
- Submit it as a comment below, no more than 3 entries per person, one entry per comment
On August 17th, at midnight, the contest will close. Afterward, 4 winners will be randomly chosen to win a D&D 5e Starter Set, and one additional hand-picked winner of our choice will receive a d20Monkey “Whining is Coming” T-shirt along with a D&D 5e Player’s Handbook, and a Starter Set as well.
Note: Contest winners limited to US/Canada only due to shipping expenses, if you are overseas you are still welcome to enter, upon winning we can offer a year of free Ascendant subscription time.

A big and many thanks to all who voted for us in the ENnies this year and to those whom came out to hang out with us at Gencon – it was a blast! Also, be sure to check out Chris Pramas’s Indiegogo project Cadaver Bone, it’s a very cool and very personal project (he’s using it to raise money to help pay for surgery).
We are back from Gencon and are happy to announce that we’ve won yet another Silver ENnie for Best Podcast! This episode is simply an audio capture from our How Technology Is Changing RPGs panel from Gencon this year, which runs about one hour and fifteen minutes. Quite a departure from our normal episode but we wanted to put this out there for those who couldn’t attend and can’t watch the video. Stay tuned for a fresh episode next week!
ENnies voting is over, Gencon hotels are booked, and we’re looking forward to the con. Be sure to stop by our Kickstarter backer party if you’ve got time Friday night, we’d love to meet as many of you as we can in person. Also, be sure to check out our post full of what we’ve got going on at Gencon too, hopefully you can make it to our panel!
