I feel that face-to-face is a core element of table-top rpgs. There are just too many intricacies in demeanor, player body language, and group dynamic that gets “lost in translation” within a virtual environment. There is a place for virtual table-tops, but I don’t believe they can ever replace the fundamental social interaction that makes pen-and-paper gaming such great fun.
While I think it’s great that the Gygax memorial will be going ahead, I hope at some point a similar honour will be awarded to Dave Arneson, whose contribution to D&D was at least as significant.
I do wholeheartedly agree.
Thanks again. I am really enjoying every podcast. I agree with Micah, Jerry and Justin about the longevity of tabletop roleplaying and hope that the rest of us do too. You are right to assume that both War Machine and Hordes are part of the Iron Kingdoms – they are tabletop skirmish games. Hordes is an updated version reflecting the changing world, and introducing new armies.
