The campaign maps have been needing a bit of an overhaul for a while, and I finally got a chance to make a few of the changes I’ve been wanting to do. Over the weekend, I whipped up a couple great additions to the maps, and I think you’ll like them.
General Purpose Markers
Up to now, the only markers you could add to your wiki were for wiki pages. The idea was that you would make a location in your wiki, then link to it from your map. However, as many of you have told us, that’s a little too restrictive. So, we’ve backed off that restriction and made the markers much more general purpose. You can put whatever wiki text you want in there and it will wiki-link to other pages, characters, items, you-name-it. Imagine each marker as a mini wiki page and you get the idea.
GM Only Markers
Perhaps there are some ruins the players don’t yet know about, or perhaps the king’s soldiers are gathering in secret in the forest. For these occasions, you can now make markers GM only, so only the GM and any co-GMs can see them. Again, this was suggested by many of you in the community, and it was a great idea.
Multi-colored!
Boring red pointers everywhere are…well..boring. To help you spruce up your maps a bit, we’ve added a handful of different colors you can use. Our hope is to eventually expand this into different icons and symbols to really bring your campaign to life. Until then, at least you can vary things a little.
On the way
I didn’t get a chance to do everything I wanted, so I thought I’d list out the things still on the TODO list:
- Editing of existing map markers
- Upload a new image to replace an existing map (all markers stay in place)
- Automatically pad the uploaded image so it doesn’t get cropped or distorted
We’re not done yet, but I thought everyone would enjoy the new additions. Please tell us what you think!
