Problems editing characters

If you’re getting a 500 error when trying to edit a character, we know about the issue and are working on it. It’s a subtle bug and we need to be careful about fixing it to make sure we don’t lose data.

We’ll be working on this on October 7, and hope to have a fix for it by the afternoon, or perhaps sometime on October 8. Until then, our apologies and we hope you can live without a character or two for a day.

October’s Featured Campaign (System?!): WyrmShadow

This month’s Featured Campaign is a bit different. It’s also late, but that’s not really worth noting. The important part is that it’s amazing, it’s innovative, and it’s a whole world managed by our dear friend, Duskreign.

New System Thursday – Hunter: The Vigil

It’s Thursday and you know what that means! It means we’ve hunted down another RPG system to add to our list of over 165! Did you know there were over 165 RPG systems? Because I had no idea. Anyway, this week’s new system is White Wolf’s Hunter: The Vigil

The scales have fallen from your eyes. A fire is lit: is it a lamp perched over the inscription upon an ancient blade? Or a roaring conflagration consuming the house in which the howling fiends wait? Things will never be the same after this. You ve set forth on a damning path. Carry the Vigil. Fight back the shadows.

Hot dog! Well, what are you waiting for? Grab some friends, grab the rulebook, and fight against the shadows now!

Search, Achievements, and Translations

We’ve had a few updates in the past couple weeks, and I thought I should explain them a little better and give some context.

Campaign Search

Campaign Search

Many people have requested the ability to search through a campaign. Sometimes you want to find a specific wiki page or character and you don’t want to go hunting through all your links.

All Ascendant campaigns now have access to an intra-campaign search, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for instantly. Look for the search box in the sidebar on the campaign home page, and enjoy!

Achievements

Achievements

As many of you have already seen, we’ve added unlockable achievements for everyone. We wanted a way to call attention to all the cool things you all do, and the achievements were an easy way.

Right now, there are only a handful of achievements, but we’ll be adding more as time goes on. If you have ideas of cool things we could give achievements out for, please let us know.

Language Selection

Translations

We’re working on translating different parts of the site into several other languages. We’ve made great strides on creating a Spanish translation, and thanks to a lot of help from our multilingual users, we’re getting close on several other languages as well.

To set your language preference, just edit your profile and choose your language.

JonathonVolkmer’s Shakespear’s SquidGirl Caeser

Squidgirl, written by Shakespeare for performance as a grammar school play when he was still a boy, has long been thought lost to the modern world. However, after long searching, I have come into ownership of a partial manuscript of the play. Judging from the following excerpts it would seem that the Bard based one of his later plays on this, his first great tale.

Excerpts from the final scene of “SQUIDGIRL,” one of Shakespeare’s lost plays:

From ACT 1, SCENE 2:

SHARK ANTONY
I shall remember:
When Squidgirl says “Do this,” it is perform’d.

SQUIDGIRL
Set on; and leave no ceremony out.

SOOTHSAYER
Squidgirl!

Textile Update – Moving to the latest

Textile Updates

In Part 1 and Part 2, I discuss the motivations to upgrade to the latest version of Textile, along with my findings when I tested it out. In summary, the new Textile works great for 99% of people, but the 1% that get shafted are the ones who put in the most work. We help many, but harm our most ardent and energetic users. Not exactly a great bargain.

Still, we can’t be forever frozen and afraid to move forward. In a rare move for us, we’ve decided to make the Textile parsing an option. In general, we try to avoid making things optional. It’s difficult for us to support, and makes the overall system more confusing to use. But in this case, we needed a way to please everyone, and providing backwards compatibility was the only way.

We strongly recommend using the newest version of Textile, which is why we automatically upgraded everyone to it. But, if you have put in a lot of work on your campaign and it looks funky with the latest version, you’ll need to edit your campaign settings and select to use the older version.

If you do choose to use the old parser, we would still suggest using the newest one on your new campaigns. The automatic line breaks alone make it much easier to use.

Important!

After you make the change to your campaign setting, you will need to edit and re-save the pages that are looking strange. The change won’t be visible until you re-save a particular page.

Award Winning!
