Site and Tech Updates (May 2016)

Greetings Obsidian Portal Community,
I’ll have to ask your forgiveness for this temporary interruption to our regularly scheduled lineup (and for the unexpected delay in getting it out to you), but it is my hope that you’ll indulge me a bit – and that you’ll find the following site and technical updates to be something that you’re also interested in reading about. It has been right about six months since our last technical update, so I think it’s fair to say we’re due.
Over the course of this week, I had the opportunity to find out what’s been going on behind the scenes, learn more about where things sit with the site right now, and get a sense of what’s coming down the proverbial pipe as time moves on.
Some random thoughts about email notification
We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about email notifications and why people do/don’t receive emails in certain situations. The email settings are a little confusing, so I thought I would try to clear things up a bit and ask for feedback at the same time.
The overall goal
What we’re trying to accomplish with the email notifications is pretty straightforward: If someone is making a change to their Obsidian Portal campaign, we assume they want others to know about it. One way is to make some edits, then open up their email and say, “Hey, I made some changes to X, Y, and Z. Go check them out!” Or, we can have the system do it for them. That’s our goal here, to make it simple and straightforward to notify the other members in your campaign that something has changed.
FSF: Shadowrun Quick-Start Rules

Free System Friday
This friday we’re highlighting a copy of Quick Start rules for the classic modern fantasy RPG Shadowrun 4th edition. It contains pre-generated characters and all you need to know (players & DM’s alike) for this little intro session that takes place within a convenience store, sounds like a blast! (Literally, there’s shotguns.) T
If you’ve got the time, you can pick it up over at RPGNow, check it out, then head right on back here later and leave us a comment, tell us what you think about it! It’s nice to see freebies like this that have such high production values and it only uses 6 sided dice to boot!
