Update Post – January 29, 2020

Hello Portal Community,

While this post is technically a bit overdue (I had originally intended to post an update in late December), the delay has enabled the list of fixes and updates to grow, and for me to add another couple of items to the list myself. This past month (give or take), I achieved a personal goal and have been granted access (and permission of course) to start doing some dev work in addition to the various community and content tasks I normally do.

3D Pen Mini’s

As the world of tabletop roleplaying games evolves into what feels like the future, I discern a desperate, mid-life-crisis-ish urge to stay abreast of the cool new tech that came out several years ago (I’m slow to adapt).  3D printing is one such cutting-edge contrivance… but I’m not willing to risk a large investment (read: I’m cheap) in a desktop 3D printer to make miniatures.  Not yet, anyway.  Instead, I bought a 3D Pen to see if I could wield divine power upon the (small-scale) realm of plastic!

Sneak Peek – Main Site Editor

Hello everyone, and welcome to another Sneak Peek blog post, where I give you a quick preview of what’s coming our way in the near future here at Obsidian Portal. By now, you’ve no doubt had a chance to see and get a bit of experience with the CKEditor that came as part of the community forum update.

As you might have heard over on the boards, the new editor is coming to the main site as well – part of the overall plan to move towards HTML 5/6 as the primary markup language used for OP campaigns.

Sneak Peek – Community Forum Update

Hey Everyone,

As you may recall from the Site and Tech Updates post for May, one of the items that was “in the works” was a software update for the Portal’s community forums. At that time, things were still in the earliest stages, with some basic cleanup and the like having just begun. Well, since that post, work on the update has continued – and John has now informed me that we are “maybe a week out or so” from seeing it released. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek at what’s ahead.

Site and Tech Updates (May 2016)

Greetings Obsidian Portal Community,

I’ll have to ask your forgiveness for this temporary interruption to our regularly scheduled lineup (and for the unexpected delay in getting it out to you), but it is my hope that you’ll indulge me a bit – and that you’ll find the following site and technical updates to be something that you’re also interested in reading about. It has been right about six months since our last technical update, so I think it’s fair to say we’re due.

Over the course of this week, I had the opportunity to find out what’s been going on behind the scenes, learn more about where things sit with the site right now, and get a sense of what’s coming down the proverbial pipe as time moves on.
