It’s been a pretty quiet week overall to be honest. Development and content continues, bug fixes are steadily making their way through the system. Even here behind the curtain things seems mellow. Still, there is one topic this week I feel is worth particular mention, so here goes.
ReForge Badge Release
In the “super old school” department, I discovered this week that the base-level ReForge backer profile badge had in fact been created back during that time period, but had only ever been given out to two accounts. With a bit of investigating, I found that the mechanism by which the badge is awarded either was never implemented, or did not exist on the dashboard. So, I got with someone possessing the appropriate database access, and with their help I’m happy to report that we got this badge rolled out to all of the backers from the original list.
A couple of quick notes on that. [1] I made the “executive decision” to also award the badge to the $1 backers, even though the cut-off for the badge was originally slated at the $5 mark. I figure given everything that happened, they at least deserve what distinction I can give them in this context. [2] There are 14 individuals whose accounts I was not able to confirm – users who have changed both their username and email address since those times, or whose accounts are completely gone by this point.
There’s still a bit of work that needs to be done before the other higher-level backer badges can be given out (they were never even created for example), but it’s something that I’m going to be working towards moving forward. Having said all of that, I know a profile badge (or a few in the future) doesn’t do much on a day-to-day basis, or make up for all of the rough road that followed the ReForge, but I like to hope that it says something to those users – that it shows them there is still commitment to honor the faith they placed in OP with their financial support – even if it will take far longer than anyone could have ever anticipated.
