Portal Tip: Getting Your Players To Use The Tools

Dungeon Masters on Obsidian Portal are often faced with the problem of how to motivate their players to use the online tools available. Today I’d like to share some ideas and approaches that will hopefully help in that regard.

Now it’s true that DMs spend much more time on their campaigns than most players do. After all they are responsible for entire worlds while players only have their characters to worry about. Add in factors like day jobs, lack of time between games, and other real world concerns and it can be hard to get them to take the time.

Review: The Shadowfell: Gloomwrought and Beyond

An Invitation…

The Shadowfell is a place between worlds, it is a dark mirror of the material plane where everything within is tinged with death, decay and morally gray tones. The inhabitants of the Shadowfell are all tainted or crooked in some regard, it is a place where death seems insignificant and the city walls themselves even seem to keep a watchful eye.

Espionage, black politics, factions and many a mystery permeate this dread plane. In a world where everyone and every thing is seemingly out to get you, survival is surely an accomplishment.

The Shadowfell boxed set is to serve as a campaign setting across most levels of play, a recurring locale, or perhaps one the players must escape from or break into. No matter how you look at it, if you’re in the market to run something dark, bleak or oppressive this is probably a great way to get started.

From Beyond The Shattered Gateway: June’s COTM

This month we interview HoptownGameNight (aka Justin Mason) about his ongoing game night campaign “From Beyond The Shattered Gateway” in all of its marvellously decadent presentation. Long time advocate of Obsidian Portal, Justin claims the title of having the first ever “Campaign of the Month” from way back in 2008 so it’s nice to have him back again.
