Leaving Assumptions at the Door

I’ll admit right off the bat, I was never one much for tabletop gaming magazines. Not really sure why, maybe it was my assumption that they were all horridly laid out or that a mixed bag of systems/games I’ve never played in wouldn’t appeal to me. I also kind of thought of the content to be amateur-ish and always convinced myself I’d much rather have something straight from a game publisher – official books, modules and supplements rather than something ‘joe schmoe’ came up with.

Boy was I wrong about all of those things.

FSF: Call of Cthulhu Quick-Start

It’s been a while since the last Free System Friday so I thought I’d toss another one your way this week. Let’s keep it short and sweet shall we? Chances are most of you know a thing or two about Cthulhu mythos and if not then you can definitely get started here.

You might also want to read a short story or two by H.P. Lovecraft himself before diving into the Cthulhu game to help set proper mood and tone, think of it as awesome homework if you will.

The Call of Cthulhu s about to celebrate it’s 30th year as a tabletop RPG, so if you haven’t gotten in on the action yet (like me) now would be a great time to do so! Head on over to the Chaosmium website and pick up the Call of Cthulhu Quick-Start package – a game that can only end in tears, and by tears I mean insanity and/or a horrific demise for the PC’s and perhaps the entire world.

Looking for a game in San Francisco

My day job has me travelling to San Francisco from 4/9 to 4/16. I looked on the big map, and there are plenty of campaigns listed in that area. I’ll have some free time in the evenings, and I’m wondering if there are any gamers in the area who would be willing to entertain a guest.

Is this near you?

I’m willing to put myself to work, and I’d be happy to run a 1-shot. I love Dark Heresy, and I’ve got a 1-shot that I’m planning to run at GenCon. Otherwise, I’m happy to run a guest PC, an NPC, or even just sit and observe.
