Review: Stranger Things 5th Ed. D&D Starter Set

Our regular GM was sick last week, so our gaming group had a chance to try out the Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons Stranger Things Starter Set. In short: it’s a great little adventure that’s just right for beginners or DM’s who need a starting point for a low-level campaign. And for more experienced gamers, I’ve written up some ways to modify it for more advanced play.

Summer of Flames D&D Contest

It Burns!

It’s August and Gencon is just around the corner, the temperatures are rising and so is everyone’s anticipation for the next edition of D&D. We’ve been covering a lot of news regarding 5e on the Haste Podcast and Jerry has been talking about it a lot on his blog.

Obviously, we’re pretty excited ourselves and so we’d like to give everyone a chance at winning some awesome 5e schwag, whether you’re going to gencon or not this year! What better goodies to give away than some 5e D&D Starter Sets, and maybe even a Player’s Handbook! The contest is simple, but you’ve only got until the end of Gencon to enter, here’s how:

In one line: Tell us the best way to beat the heat! Whether you’re avoiding fireballs, surviving a red dragon’s breath, or simply not shriveling up under the Dark Sun.

Some examples:

“I cast any remaining ice spells inside my house before I go to sleep and re-memorize everything, just so I have some A/C while I sleep”

“Huddle behind my my shield and hope all this ‘dwarven craftsmanship’ pays off when the dragon starts spewing fire”

“Stow my canteen of water in the last place anyone would look – inside the severed orc head that dangles from my belt.”

Also available in a Ladies fitted T-shirt sizes.

On August 17th, at midnight, the contest will close. Afterward, 4 winners will be randomly chosen to win a D&D 5e Starter Set, and one additional hand-picked winner of our choice will receive a d20Monkey “Whining is Coming” T-shirt along with a D&D 5e Player’s Handbook, and a Starter Set as well.
